The authorities of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), weekend, released the result of an audit of petrol stations in Bayelsa State, announcing the discovery of fake filling stations in the state.
According to the DPR, though the officials of the submersible turbine pumps department have been empowered with new technology to detect fake filling stations and those engaged in under pricing, the audit of petrol stations in the state have revealed that illegal petrol stations outnumbered legal ones.
The Operations Controller of the DPR in the state, Mr Bassay Nkanga, at a stakeholders’ meeting with members of the Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) said the discovery has led to the riot act read to petrol station owners in Bayelsa state over petroleum products diversion and under dispensing.
According to Nkanga, “Bayelsans have continued to complain over the price regime and under dispensing by petrol stations in Yenagoa metropolis. Henceforth, any petrol station found diverting petroleum products, and engaging in under dispensing and illegal price regime would face the sanctions from the DPR.”
