
Turns out, I was right to be concerned since it has now been determined that certain types of bacteria can feed off of plastics and plastic related compounds. Other plastics are known to leach into our foods and affect our health. The health risks alone are enough to convince anyone why making the switch from plastic to pyrex food storage is a better choice. Here's five other reasons why I prefer using glass storage containers instead of plastic.
Safe for all temperatures. Most glass food storage containers are dishwasher safe, and are safe to use in freezers, ovens, and microwaves,such as pyrex storage bowls. For cooks who are tired of doing piles of dishes all the time, glass containers with a lid mean that only one container will be needed to handle multiple uses.
Easier to stack. The lids of most plastic containers aren't designed for stacking. The pyrex with lids for glass storage containers are slightly concave which makes them easier to stack in both the refrigerator and the freezer.
Easy to view the contents. Do you have to pop open the lids of every storage container in your frig to figure out what they are holding? Not so with glass containers which make it super easy to view what's inside.
Easy to sterilize. Plastics aren't stable enough to be sterilized since they can melt at high temperatures, and must be washed out with bleach or rubbing alcohol instead. food steamer however is easy to sterilize since they can be boiled or run through the dishwasher.
Green. For the eco conscious, glass is one of the most environmentally materials around. It's reusable and long lasting, recyclable, and made of sand which is something that we have plenty on this planet.
These are six good reasons why I've made the switch from plastic to glass for storing food. Not only it is healthier for my family, it saves me time while also reducing waste.
